About the Explorer Post
The Blaine Law Enforcement Explorer Program, run by the Blaine Police Department and Learning For Life, is a non-profit organization dedicated to introducing young adults to the Law Enforcement Career. Explorers are trained by department advisers in police techniques, crime prevention, and first aid. Explorers then use those skills in State and National competitions.
To raise money for the post, Explorers will volunteer to work certain details, such as traffic control at various community events, parking, and other duties that may require our assistance.
Explorers are also guided by the Chain of Command. The Chain of Command is a group of 7 ranking explorers who help supervise and lead explorers.
All new explorers begin in a 1 year probationary period. Explorers will be issued uniforms. The cost of the uniforms and gear is paid for the by the post. Explorers do not exercise authority and are classified as "Civilian Volunteers".
Meetings are almost always held on Sunday nights and are mandatory to attend. Additional training organized by Explorer members is encouraged, however, is not a substitute for the Sunday meetings.
Every year, the Blaine Police Explorer post brings ALL of its active members to the State Conference held in Rochester, MN. The State conference is a unique opportunity for the Explorers to experience as it consists of competition between other Posts in practical scenarios such as Burglary, Hostage Negotation, First Aid, Domestic Response, and much more! Additionally there is always a career fair, fitness run, academic sessions, police interview practices, shooting competition, and police demonstrations such as SWAT, K9, and much more! The Blaine Police Explorers main goal of State Conference is to have fun!
As a result of the Explorers hard and motivated training, Explorers have the opportunity to place (1st through 5th) in the practical scenarios, shooting, and fitness runs. Not only do you win the pleasure of paid off training, but the Blaine Police Explorer post is awarded scholarship money for every event the Explorer teams place in. This scholarship money is rewarded to the Explorers through the Post for academic merit and performance in the department and school.
On every even numbered year (2014, 2016, 2018, etc.) a National Exploring Conference is held. Same concept, more competition! The Blaine Police Explorer Post earned 1st place in Search & Arrest, and 4th place in White Collar Crime in 2014. The Explorer post earned 2nd place in Bomb Threat Response in 2016. That is a huge accomplishment, to place so high against the whole country!
An additional opportunity Explorers get to experience is the ability to Ride Along with Blaine Police Officers and Community Service Officers. Explorers are never placed in harmful situations on these Ride Alongs, however, they will be required to wear a ballistic vest for their protection.
Whether you're interested in Accounting, Nursing, or Law Enforcement, the Blaine Police Explorer Post has a place for you to make memories, learn new perspectives, and grow as an adult.
